College Recruitment Readiness Assessment

Check each item that is true about your student athlete and the college recruitment process. This assumes that your student athlete has been assessed to have the skill to potentially play at some level in college or junior college. Add up the checks to see how you score. The scoring guide is at the end.

Our student athlete plays on a high school team.
Our athlete is a player on the best Club team in our area.
Our athlete plays in at least 4 tournaments a year attended by college coaches.
Our student athlete has a typed profile with all pertinent information of interest to college recruiters.
We keep updated important sport statistics available for our athlete to share with college coaches and for the profile.
Our athlete has taken the SAT and/or ACT.
Our athlete attends a sport camp at a college of interest each summer.
We make tutors or training opportunities available as needed to our athlete.
Our athlete’s coaches and athletic director know his/her desire to be recruited.
Our athlete has a recommended workout plan particular to his/her sport.
Our athlete follows the workout plan consistently.
Our athlete is doing well scholastically and should have no trouble being cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
We have completed the NCAA Clearinghouse application form and mailed it.
We have researched colleges having our athlete’s desired career fields.
We have researched the college teams and coaches success records.
We have researched and identified 6 – 10 potential colleges that may be suitable for our athlete.
Profiles and letters have been mailed to each college of interest.
All applications received, from colleges of interest, have been completed and returned to the colleges.
A skills/action videotape of our athlete performing has been made and is ready to send to colleges that request them
Recruiter letters are coming to our athlete through the mail or email.
We have visited four college campuses of potential interest.
We have attended college games and observed the teams and coaches.
We have a follow-up call schedule for each school that was sent applications.
We have made 2-6 official or unofficial visits to colleges of interest.
Our athlete has listed important items about their ideal college and has prioritized them to help evaluate college choices.
Our athlete has received scholarship or walk-on offers.
Our athlete has committed to play for a college team.
Our athlete has completed the college application process to ensure acceptance.
Our athlete has applied for financial aid and other college scholarship opportunities (if a full scholarship has not been received).
We have contacted all potential colleges that we were talking to and have let them know of our athlete's college selection.

If you scored:
30 – 25 Gold Medal - Future Collegiate Player
Congratulations! You have made or will soon make an educated selection for a great collegiate athletic career.

26 – 20 Silver Medal - Recruit in Waiting
You have done most of the work; it’s a matter of time for a good match to come, just keep the follow-up plan going.

19 – 15 Bronze Medal – Well Prepped Recruit
Your research is well underway and you should start zeroing in on a few
select colleges for visits.

5 - 14 Honorable Mention – Just Getting Started
You have a good foundation started to launch your recruitment
process and promote yourself to the colleges you desire. Just keep to your plan.
