After
successfully helping her own student athlete get noticed by college sports
recruiting programs, Gerri Steadman now shares her expertise with other
parents (although student athletes and coaches are also welcomed). Her
knowledge of "what works" combined with the wisdom she gained
from "what didn’t work” provides parents with a valuable
perspective they would not find alone. Gerri’s coaching style is
warm, personable and enthusiastic. The knowledge she shares about volleyball
and the recruiting process will allow your student athlete to set realistic
goals and achieve them! Although her frame of reference is volleyball,
the recruiting strategy process will fit for other athletic sports as
well.

Coaching Session - Teleclass
A series of one-hour weekly classes are offered to parents of student
athletes desiring to play at the college level. Each session will be conveniently
held via a conference-linked telephone line. The only requirement is that
you are committed and ready to take action in setting goals to accomplish
this recruitment pursuit for your student athlete!
Individual Coaching will be provided to
give you a one-on-one interaction with Gerri Steadman to ready and promote
your athlete in a proactive, positive way. In these sessions, you will
receive accelerated yet focused information.
Or you may prefer Group Coaching, which
will consist of a number of parents together on a coaching call. The advantage
of Group Coaching is in addition to information being shared; the group
will contribute resourceful and innovative ideas for problem solving from
their experiences as well. This format also allows parents to ask specific
questions and share concerns.
Real life experiences, specific examples, and “how-to’s”
will be discussed. Guest experts will be invited to join the coaching
session as needed. The number of sessions you will need depends upon where
your student athlete is in the recruiting process.
General topics discussed will include:
- Finding the right teams for your athlete and starting a Player Profile.
- Effective communication with coaches.
- Identifying potential colleges and teams for your athlete.
- Developing a promotions plan for your athlete.
- Awareness of NCAA rules and guidelines.
- The process of making skills tapes.
- Visits to college campuses – what to expect and what to check
out.
- Negotiating strategies and ingredients to make a decision that will
ensure the best fit and the most dollars for your athlete
At the end of the sessions, you will have the following:
- A plan to promote your athlete.
- A plan to research colleges that may be a good fit.
- A completed Profile for your athlete.
- A completed NCAA Clearinghouse Registration
- Form letters to send to college coaches.
- A follow-up system to keep in touch with coaches.
- A checklist of questions to ask coaches at each step of the process.
- Ideas and suggestions on how to solve specific problems for your student
athlete’s individual concerns.
- A skills tape.

Skills Tape/DVD
(currently available for volleyball
only)
One of the best ways to promote your student athlete to coaches
who have not seen your athlete play is to create a skills videotape. An
actual recruiting tape will be shared, along with tips about what to video,
how to video, and from what angles. This tape contains the drills and
shot angles that best highlight your athlete’s skills to college
coaches. If you don’t have help available to you in this area, this
tape will help you see the end result possibilities.
Helping Hands
Many parents are busy or uncomfortable with the mechanics of
the entire recruiting process. If you find, for any reason, that you want
more specific hands-on help, other services are offered, including:
- Writing and typing the Athlete Profile
- Composing and typing form letters for coaches
- Researching appropriate colleges for your athlete
- Completion of the Clearinghouse forms
- Or…whatever else you may want more assistance with.
These additional services are all provided in close association with
the parent and with the understanding that specific, accurate information
will be made available. The parent and athlete must give the direction.
